Ram, Lakshman and Sita in Dandakaranya

Description

Ram, Lakshman and Sita rest beside a thatched hut and a stream in the Dandakaranya forest, during their years of exile. The lower margin carries the title in Marathi (दण्डकारण्यांतील रामलक्ष्मण आणि सीता) with the publisher Anant Shivaji Desai, Moti Bazar, Mumbai, and the Ravi Varma Press name.

Size: 10 × 14 inches.

An original oleograph from the era of Raja Ravi Varma’s press — colour lithographs printed from stone and varnished to resemble an oil painting, made so that his images could hang in ordinary Indian homes. Please see the photographs for the frame and condition.
