Description
The goddess of learning sits on a rock beside a stream, playing the veena, with her peacock and a lotus at her feet — one of Ravi Varma’s best-loved images. The lower margin reads SARASWATI / सरस्वती with the Ravi Varma Press, Malavli imprint, and the image carries the Ravi Varma signature.
Size: 14 × 20 inches.
An original oleograph from the era of Raja Ravi Varma’s press — colour lithographs printed from stone and varnished to resemble an oil painting, made so that his images could hang in ordinary Indian homes. Please see the photographs for the frame and condition.
